Transport by methane tanker
74% of supply came in the form of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and the remaining 26% in gaseous state. A total of 470 vessels offloaded at Spanish terminals over the course of 2009, compared with 494 in 2008.

On 18 December the first vessel from Yemen offloaded at the Huelva plant its cargo taken on board at the new Yemen LNG liquefaction plant.

On 11 January the Q-Max (267,000 m3 of LNG), Mozah methane tanker docked in Bilbao; this is the largest vessel in the world in its class, and was chartered by the company Qatargas for Gas Natural.

Spain was once again the leading destination on the Atlantic Rim, and the third in the world, after Japan and Korea, in arrivals of LNG.

However its share in Europe has fallen, due to progress in LNG imports from countries like the United Kingdom and Belgium (as stated in paragraph 3.3.3 of this Annual Report), and lower LNG imports in Spain.

Indeed, Spain has been the target in 2009 of 39.3 % of the LNG unloaded in Europe share is 12.3 points lower than that recorded in 2008.

The storage capacity of Spain's offloading and regasification plants amounts to a sum total of 2,496,500 m3 of LNG, an increase of 6.4% on the previous year. The daily output capacity of plants rose by 4.3%, to a level now in excess of 2000 GWh per day.
