Initial estimates indicated that crude oil production stabilised in 2011. According to the statistics published by BP, in 2010 demand increased by 2.1%, ending at 2005 levels.
Growth in production in 2011 was distributed as follows: the Middle East at 55% and America at 2%, with Africa experiencing an 11% drop in production, due mainly to the drop in extraction in Libya. Production in Russia increased by 1.2%.
The estimates made of non-conventional oil are also noteworthy. For example, Purvin&Gertz published a study in June, which estimated that the combined production of non-conventional oil from the three most important fields in the US was over 1.3 million barrels/day.
