At the end of 2011, Qatar reached an LNG production capacity of 77 million Mt a year, becoming the main LNG exporter.
Despite the setbacks that the various attempts to massively exploit the exportation of the rich gas resources in Iran has had (33,000 bcm, second worldwide), this country maintaines its goal of putting the production of an LNG plant that it is constructing on the market in 2013.
Iraq has signed an agreement with Royal Dutch Shell PLC and another company, with the goal of obtaining and processing gas from the oil wells, which are now being burned in well heads. The figure is at about 20 bcm a day.
The maximum production of Yemen’s LNG terminal is already a reality after some months of difficulty. The second train in operation started operating in April 2010. The terminal is located in the Balhaf port, on the Southern Coast. The total capacity of the trains is 6.7 million Mt a year.
