With an increase of 4.3%, natural gas sales for the year 2007 reached a new record high
of 408 TWh. The distribution of the demand was led by the electricity generation plants, which
consumed 34.8% of the natural gas. The domestic market increased its demand by 6 tenths of a point
to 13.8% of natural gas sales and the industrial sector increased its growth by 2.1%.
As far as the supplies are concerned, 99.7% of the gas marketed in Spain came from imports
from 11 countries, with Algeria standing out for yet another year with a share of 37%. However, its
weight is increasingly less significant since the range of supplier countries is relatively wide.
The number of clients increased by 4.7% to 6.78 million. The length of the network reached 63,199 km and the municipal districts with natural or manufactured gas services now total 1,325.
In 2007, Spain, which remains one of the countries in the European Union with the highest demand, held the XV World Liquefied Natural Gas Congress (LNG 15) in Barcelona. This was in recognition of the role being played by Spain in the gas world and, in particular, in the world of liquefied natural gas. The congress was attended by more than 5,000 participants and involved the presence of 712 enterprises from 72 different countries.
