The heads of the Trans-Sahara Gas Pipeline project, shared by the three countries mentioned earlier, expect it to be working in 2015. Also, the originally planned capacity has been increased to a total of 15 bcm, which will be mostly destined for Europe, although gas may also be distributed to other African countries. The project is still awaiting a final decision by potential investors.
A decision on Damietta 2 is expected during 2008. Damietta 2 is the second train in the Spanish-Egyptian plant. Unión Fenosa’s participation has been a success so far, giving this company a presence throughout the entire gas chain. This initiative puts Egypt on the path to development, via exports and the acquisition of know-how.
