Consumption rose by 5% in the residential sector in a year that saw weather conditions remain much the same as in 2007. Temperatures during the first quarter were similar to those experienced the year before, though with some cold snaps, and while autumn was the coldest it had been in the last fifteen years, the weather in December was not greatly different from that of 2007.
It should be remembered, however, that over the last two years the number of customers supplied by this sector has grown by 8%, the largest increase in the whole of Europe. At the end of 2008, the number of customers (meters) using natural gas (including customers in Mallorca who are currently using propane-air mix and will shortly be supplied with natural gas) totalled 6.93 million.
The residential and commercial market accounted for 13.2% of all sales, with non-energy use (fertilizers) taking a further 1.1%.
